Although I am a profesional WordPress developer, used to create lots of advanced themes, I chose to use the Thesis WordPress theme when I decided to launch Cats Who Blog. Why? Because of all its advanced options and the fact that you can customize it as you want to make it fit your needs.

In this post, I have compiled the 10 most awesome sites made using the Thesis Theme.

A bit about Thesis

The Thesis WordPress Theme were first relased in 2008, and were one of the first “Premium WordPress Theme” to be released to the public.

Althought being released in 2008, Thesis is still extremely popular, especially for internet marketing bloggers. This is probably due to the fact that Thesis embed all that you need for SEO success, so you’ll not even have to install the All In One SEO Pack plugin!

Among other things, Thesis embed everything you need for quickly get a personalized theme. The list below is just the proof of what you can do using this incredible theme.

Thesis is available in two versions: The “Personnal” version at $87, which is ideal for bloggers, and the “Developer” version ($164), which allow you to install any copies of the theme you want.

If you’d like to order your copy of Thesis, simply follow this link.

Isn’t $87 a bit too much for a theme? I mean, Thematic and Hybrid both are also highly customizable theme frameworks, but at the same time they are free, and only some pre-customized child themes cost something.

These design are not less beautiful though, I personally like yours, Green & Gorgeous’ and the Fusebox Theatre’s ones.

2 Jean-Baptiste Jung November 19, 2009 at 5:13 pm

@Eugen R : I agree that $87 is expensive. But after having a look into Thesis code, I have to admit that this required lots of work, so the $87 are worth.
Of course Thematic is a wonderful framework. But Thesis is a bit eaiser for beginners IMO.

3 Dave November 19, 2009 at 5:52 pm

@Eugen Yes, $87 for a personal Thesis license is a lot more than other premium themes cost, but I think the true value of Thesis is the support you get from the community. As someone who spends all day every day slicing PSD’s to Thesis, I can vouch for the fact that it’s worth every penny.

4 Eugen R. November 19, 2009 at 7:06 pm

@Dave Well I can understand you since you are being paid for working with Thesis, but don’t say there’s no community support from Thematic. I’d say their communities are at least equal. On the other hand, the Thesis community as I understand it is initially more ready to pay money since they have already paid $87 for the framework itself, so it’s good to be a webdesigner there. That’s good of course. For webdesigners, that is.

A very nice looking Thesis theme customization is the one recently launched at Planeto.com. A good example of how big an effect just playing around with the background and some details can have.

@Lars Tong Strömberg : Thanks for sharing, it is indeed a great customization!

The Krispy Kreme one is amazing, never would have guessed that was Thesis. A lot of people seem to think Thesis sites “all look the same” or at least very similar, and this post proves that that isn’t necessarily the case.

I mentioned this on Twitter also, but http://asnio.com/ also has a great Thesis design.

8 Design Informer November 20, 2009 at 1:51 am

These are great! I have never seen Thesis customized like these.

9 Alex Fraiser November 20, 2009 at 2:56 am

Thanks a lot Jean for including two of my blogs in this list! Really appreciate it man, retweeted!

10 David Werst November 20, 2009 at 3:23 am

My wife Ramona is really into Basil. When you visit her site you will see! http://RamonasBasilGarden.com Ramona loves your site!

I have just done a face lift on my blog too! http://RealTexasBlog.com

We both really love Thesis!

11 Berchman November 20, 2009 at 7:52 am

Sweet.
Jean thanks for including my work on Dennison + Wolfe! Appreciate the nod.

12 Muzi Mohale November 20, 2009 at 7:56 am

From your list Jean, I’m exposed to Blogussion.com. Alex has tweaked the theme uniquely and it’s even a bonus that himself and Seth are dishing out insightful content daily…

13 Jean-Baptiste Jung November 20, 2009 at 9:21 am

@Leland : Indeed asnio.com is a great Thesis customization! I had to include only 10, so it doesn’t appear here…maybe in a future list? ;)

@Alex Fraiser : You’re welcome, you really did a good work on both sites!

Thank you for this inspiring collection. I collected a lot of awsome Thesis customizations over the past months. You can see them here http://www.thesisworld.com/category/showroom/

The blog is in German but the screenshots are international.

Thanks for featuring Celeb Fickle on your blog. I really appreciate it. But actually all the work is done by my friend @ computelive.com

Also the other blogs are great, all have put in a great effort. Cheers!

Hey Jean, I’ve got to agree with Eugen here.
I’ve had to work with Thesis a few times over the past couple weeks and just don’t see a point in it. I mean, it has a few backend customizable things, but if you already know how to theme in WP, what is the point?
And what would you suggest someone do to make sure their Thesis themes don’t just break whenever the client gets ahold of those backend controls?!
I think I’m missing the point of it or something.

17 Josh Stauffer November 25, 2009 at 7:15 am

I’ve been wanting to purchase Thesis for a few weeks now. I really think it does have the SEO advantage over many other frameworks available. Just haven’t been able to talk myself into dropping the bones to buy it. These customizations are pushing me that way though.

18 w1sh November 29, 2009 at 6:02 am

Josh – Why not use All-In-One-SEO? Seems like the same thing.

19 Josh Stauffer November 29, 2009 at 6:49 am

@w1sh
I do use All-In-One-SEO but in my mind there is a more to SEO than what that plugin has to offer.

When you consider what Eugene said above about the communities of Thesis and Thematic being equal and one is premium while the other is free, you’ve got to think that Thesis must be doing something right. After all, I read a lot more positive reviews for Thesis than negative.

This is just my opinion though. To each his own.

20 Jean-Baptiste Jung November 29, 2009 at 9:31 am

@w1sh & Josh Stauffer : I don’t really understand why people need to find which theme is better between Thesis and Thematic. My opinion is that they are both great, it all depends of what you want to do with them.

21 Nathan December 1, 2009 at 2:58 pm

Just got Thesis – thanks for the inspiration! Great blog btw, I’ll be returning :-)

22 Jean-Baptiste Jung December 1, 2009 at 3:17 pm

@Nathan : Thank you! Have you checked out the Thesis hacks list that I posted yesterday?

23 Nathan December 1, 2009 at 5:32 pm

The Thesis hacks list was actually the first post that caught my eye (via google search). And then this one came up as #2 for “thesis theme examples” in google. I wanted to point this out because the posts are so new – good lesson for bloggers about quality content and rankability.

Thanks again
Nathan

@Nathan : Thanks a lot for the compliment, I really appreciate it :) Hope you’ll love my upcomming article as well!

I am looking for someone who can customize my thesis theme into a company site like it’s been done for krispy kreme (1 above) . Any idea about the designer behind it?

Great list btw.
