Promote your blog: 250+ links to get free backlinks

When promoting your blog, getting quality backlinks is definitely an important thing, because it allows you to increase your pagerank as well as your blog’s visibility.
In this article, I have compiled a list a 250+ Dofollow blogs; blogs using the CommentLuv plugin and blogs using the Top Commentators widget so you can get lots and lots of backlinks to make sure your blog will get the success it deserves.

What you have to know

Since this blog is in Dofollow and use the Top Commentators widget, we receive a lots of comments every day. However, even if most of them are good and relevant, some people obviously leave comments like “Wow, thanks” just to gain backlinks. Of course, we can’t accept theses un-usefull comments which are more spam than real comments.

So, if you want to create a real visibility for your blog and not being called a spammer, always leave relevant comments when you have something to say.
Please do not use this list for spamming.

Blogs using the Top Commentators widget

The Top Commentators widget displays a list of urls of the top commentators on the blog. If the website doesn’t use the rel=”nofollow” attribute and if you manage to be a part of that list, you’ll win a new backlink per blog post (assuming the widget is displayed on all posts). You guessed it; that will be very good for promoting your blog to both readers and search engines.

I first wanted to create a list of blogs using this widget, but it was already done elsewhere:

Blogs using the CommentLuv plugin

Another great WordPress plugin I talked about last month is CommentLuv. This plugin uses RSS feeds to display a link to the commentator’s last post.

I have created a list of more than 20 blogs that use this plugin, so make sure to check out:

Dofollow blogs

As you probably already know, if a link is tagged by the rel=”nofollow” attribute, Google will not consider it and this link will not provide you any pagerank, so it can be usefull to get a list of a few dofollow blogs that you can comment and gain new backlinks.

Finding DoFollow blog with Fast Blog Finder

A couple of months ago, I found this interesting software called Fast Blog Finder. Sadly, it is not available on non-Windows systems, and I’m a Mac and Linux user. However, I tested it on a Windows XP laptop and the results are great: just type some keywords, and Fast Blog Finder will search blogs and sort the results by pagerank. The software will also tell you if the blog is Dofollow or Nofollow.

Fast Blog Finder

Hope you found this list useful. And you – have you experienced an increase of pagerank after leaving comments on Dofollow blogs, or blogs using CommentLuv/Top Commentators widget?
Did you receive more comments since you get rid of the rel=”nofollow” attribute, or installed CommentLuv/Top Commentators widget? Let us know!

Great stuff and I have observed this is a Dofollow blog. Quite a few of the high-quality WP covering blogs are actually, and I think that´s great.

I am considering looking more into this for my own blog as well. Currently it´s a nofollow-blog, but I try to compensate by giving link love via the blog posts right now and I am investigating if/how to change this. As I have understood, the main drawback of DoFollow could be spam as well as a lot of comments to check/moderate, and I am not sure I have the time for that. Until I have investigated how I want it long-term, I go with link love in posts and perhaps a blogroll.

What I would really want to have to fix this though is some sort of reciprocity system that works automatically. I.e. an algoritm to tell my blog whether the commentator should get a DoFollow or NoFollow.

    Something like:

“1. Check if the commentator has a DoFollow blog him/herself.
    2. Check if comment is > 100 chars OR if commentator has commented >4 times before.
    – if yes to both: DoFollow
    – else: NoFollow”

This way, I would not have to worry too much about admin or hazzle and I would be able to do this “fair and automatic”.

Do you see what I am after? Any idea if there is such a WP plugin out there that works like this or similar? Unfortunately, I am not a good enough coder to build one myself.

Good list of resources. I have recently been experimenting with Disqus which certainly attracts more comments, but out-of-the-box it’s nofollow.

I’m personally in favour of rewarding quality comments and interaction with the users of a site and Akismet does a pretty good job of locking down most comment spam. Therefore it’s not too much of an issue unless you have a gigatic site with many thounsands of visitors on a daily basis.

Excellent point Lars. Actually I wonder why such a thing doesn’t exist already (please tell me if I’m mistaken).

It wouldn’t be that hard to be honest. After you enter your website it approaches it and checks if the same plugin is activated on the website. Easiest solution is for the plugin to add a simple hidden comment in the bottom of the source code. Pretty simple eh?!

@Jean: nice collection. Going to check out the lists. And thanks for the software recommendation. I’m also a Linux user so guess I’ll have to find a Win machine somewhere…

@Lars Tong Strömberg : You should have a look to the “Nofollow Free” WP plugin, which allow you to define rules to remove (or leave) the rel nofollow.

I tried to install the Fast Blog Finder software, it asked for email and they will send me the key, but I couldn’t be able to get the key. I filled in my email and click the “Get Key” then an blank error box pop out, so I didn’t know what was the problem. Any solution?

Comments in my blog increased after I switched my blog to dofollow, but I noticed that the number of spam comments increased too and I’ve deleted a lot of them. Anyway, I’ve installed all the plugin that beneficial to the commentators such as keywordluv, commentluv, and top commentators.

    Best Regards,
    Lee

How do you remove the ‘nofollow’ attribute and install the ‘dofollow’ attribute? CommentLuv has a default ‘nofollow’ attribute as well and would be great to know how to hack that…Jean please come to my rescue!

  10. Posted January 14, 2010 at 6:26 am | Permalink

    @Muzi Mohale,
Just install the Dofollow plugin and you’re done. If I’m not mistaken, commentluv comes with the dofollow and nofollow option where you can change it in the cpanel setting, I need to check my blog setting and confirm about this.

Here is one of the dofollow wordpress plugin that I could find on the web, hope it helps. (wordpress.org/extend/plugins/sem-dofollow/)

  11. Posted January 14, 2010 at 7:24 am | Permalink

    @Lee Ka Hoong

If I’m not mistaken, commentluv comes with option to add link in peoples comments. So if your settings from Nofollow free plugin says that all links (including those inside comments) are dofollow, then the commentluv link is dofollow.

Also, he uses WordPress default settings.

Thanks for sharing! I love to comment in the CommentLuv blog as it helps me to promote my new article.

  13. Posted January 14, 2010 at 8:14 am | Permalink

Tried the free version of Fast Blog Finder and yes, it does work.

    @Lee Ka Hoong,

It worked well for me and I got the key in a mail from them immediately. Then you just copy/paste it into the last text field.

Did you fill in the correct e-mail address?

  14. Posted January 14, 2010 at 8:18 am | Permalink

    @Jean-Baptiste Jung,

Thx! I will definitely check it out. It seems to use some of the logic I requested, although not checking back the commentators own site for reciprocity.

  15. Posted January 14, 2010 at 8:41 am | Permalink

    Nice post man.

My question to you Jean-Baptiste: Did you bother leaving comments in random blogs in order to get more backlinks?

  16. Posted January 14, 2010 at 3:55 pm | Permalink

@Muzi Mohale : Just download the “Nofollow Free” WP plugin and install it, it will do the job for you :)

@JP : No, I don’ty have the time to do that anymore, but I did in the past. Some bloggers even have rules like “leave 15 comments today”.

  17. Posted January 14, 2010 at 6:25 pm | Permalink

Really nice collection here! As for the software of finding good DoFollow blogs, I have to say that Blog Comment Demon is one of the best. It not only finds blogs, it tracks if your comments are approved or not, PR, Alexa, etc… It’s great!

  18. Posted January 14, 2010 at 8:27 pm | Permalink

    @Inside the Webb,

Can you elaborate on that? I checked it out (did not try it personally) but found this review which is really negative:

    http://thenexus.tk/blog-comment-demon-review

The commenters are mentioning a free tool called “Free Blog Commenter” and in a later post the same guy reviews that one as well, head to head with Blog Comment Demon:

    http://thenexus.tk/free-blog-commenter

I haven´t had time yet, but I will check out the Free Blog Commenter to see if it´s good on my own. I don´t think it´s worth it for Blog Comment Demon as I don´t find it worth the hazzle of paying and expecting it will end with a request for refund, but if you have a review of your experience with it that would an interesting read.

  19. Posted January 14, 2010 at 9:41 pm | Permalink

While CommentLuv is a nice gift to loyal readers, such things as DoFollow only attract spammers. I remember enabling DoFollow on ‘We Love Maids’ once, the number of comments in the spam queue increased by two digits over night. Plus, having DoFollow links makes people leave or attempt to leave totally irrelevant comments, which is quite disappointing.

But OK, this post speaks from the side of the commenters, not the poor bloggers, so I guess it’s kind of useful.

  20. Posted January 14, 2010 at 10:19 pm | Permalink

@Eugen R. : Yeah, tools like Fast Blog Finder can be used to leave irrelevant comments. Cats Who Code receive lots of these, but I always flag them as spam.

I downloaded that Free Blog Commentor thing and it seems to be working pretty well. I didnt even look at the other one because I wanted to see what the hype was about.

It doesn’t automatically post comments or anything, but searches for dofollow blogs.

But awesome post Jean. I rarely use nofollow on my posts but sometimes I have done it. Either way I am off to try for some links. Thanks.

@Jean-Baptiste, do you personally use tools such as the “Fast Blog Finder”? Of course I want to get as many backlinks as I can but I don’t feel comfortable leaving comments on blogs unless I’ve actually read the post. I’m not suggesting you do this but I am just curious how you go about getting backlinks (besides being the man :-) ).

I’d specifically be interested in knowing how you building links to sites like visiter-newyork.com and entreprisedelaware.com.

    Thanks!

I don’t think its a good idea to post a comment on someones blog just because you need a back link, i guess we should stop the “Back Link Hunt” and should really think about some usefull articles and content on our websites so that we can get more visitors and your visitors will spread your website if they find them usefull. :)

Generally, when i start a back link task i feel more and more sites with their so called “Free back link” tag comes in mind but believe me you should not indulge with them at all. What they do is to get a back-link from you (Reciprocal link) which is bullshit.

Stick to the fair use and build your back links slowly like the ones’ described above.

Thanks Mate for the fair advice.

Although, I have installed all the supplements that are beneficial to the commentators as KeywordLuv, CommentLuv, and leading commentators. But it sometimes happens when a couple of spam appearing in my blog after a short time. I regularly check in and access information by searching the key to ensuring more secure my blog. Thank for your sharing.

Now that Google starts to let nofollow links lose link juice, it is no point in having nofollow at all.

Dofollow blogs are the future, who wants to lose link juice to “outer space”, for blog owners it is better to let our readers have the link juice when they comment.

  61. Posted August 14, 2010 at 1:37 pm | Permalink

My statistics say that, you get 20% more traffic by commenting on other blogs. If you can use that same time to deliever more content, you’ll get around 30% more traffic. But to be visible, marketing is one part and should not be sidetracked.

  62. Posted August 14, 2010 at 10:38 pm | Permalink

whole world is obsessed with dofollow comments!! i guess google will take preventive measure fir this!

    • Posted August 18, 2010 at 3:07 pm | Permalink

Hey ryan, I hope that won’t come true. But I’m sure Google is sniffing around trying to make things harder for us.

  63. Posted August 22, 2010 at 6:17 am | Permalink

Just added this page to my bookmark list. But one thing I would like to add is that nowadays regardless whether it is dofollow or nofollow, it makes little or no difference to me. After all, more important is whether you have your links at authority site. Make sense? What’s your view on this?

  64. Posted August 27, 2010 at 12:53 am | Permalink

This is very interesting. I learnt a couple of things from this. I never new back links could improve ranking this much. But, again, I am new to this business

  65. Posted August 27, 2010 at 3:18 am | Permalink

Thanks for posting this! I just started a bog recently and have been debating removing the nofollow from my comments. My thinking is that if it’s spam I wouldn’t show the comment to begin with, and if it’s not then the person who posted the comment deserves my link back. The only problem is, if the site is itself a spam site, could my blog be “punished” by google for linking to spam? Love to hear some thoughts on this. Thanks, and great job!
