Digging into WordPress book giveaway

by Jean-Baptiste Jung on January 15, 2010 · 99 comments

Back in November, I reviewed the WordPress book written by Chris Coyier and Jeff Starr, Digging into WordPress. The book received a very good feedback among the WordPress community, and to be honest I can say that anyone who’s into WordPress should have this great book on his desk or computer.
And good news for today, I have two Digging into WordPress copies to give away.

About “Digging into WordPress”

Before going into the giveaway details, let’s talk a bit about the Digging into WordPress book. In november, I wrote a full review of the book that you can read by clicking here.

For those who don’t want to read the full review but still want to know about Digging into WordPress, just read the following :
Written by WordPress expert Jeff Starr and Chris Coyier, the 400 pages book will help you stuy all WordPress capabilities. If you’re a beginner, you’ll learn how you can use WordPress more efficiently. And if you’re a very advanced user, you’ll still learn things (as well as remember some you’ve forgot). In fact, many people are seeing me as a WordPress expert, althought I never used this sentence to describe myself, and I can tell you that I have learnt lots of things with Digging into WordPress.

Since I put my review online, lots of people bought the book, which shown how interesting it is. I had the chance to discuss the book with a few people recently and everybody loved it. So let me be clear : If you’re into WordPress, this book is a must have! They just released a printed version so don’t worry if you’re not very much into the “ebook” format.

Hi Jean,
Considering the utility of the book for theme designers, I would love to make myself eligible for the giveaway and enjoy the benefits of the great book. The site by Chris and Jeff has some amazing tricks too.

Not an expert on Wordpress, but I´ve been using it a lot for projects, and always check with Cats Who Code and Wp Recipes for info, quick help and reference. I would very much like to win a copy to improve my skills in this amazing tool that is wordpress.

Great work!

Tiago

3 Aaron C January 15, 2010 at 5:49 pm

This book looks awesome!

4 Pippin Williamson January 15, 2010 at 5:54 pm

Looks like a great book!

5 Steve Shead January 15, 2010 at 5:55 pm

I’m a heavy user of Wordpress that has just gotten into theme design. I started with designing PSD templates – moved to converting those to CSS, and now am in the throes of converting to Wordpress – learning hands on all the way. My first theme is almost ready (after suffering a vertical learning curve!)

The point – I got most of the answers to non-standard questions from your blogs – THANK YOU for that.

Steve

6 Phil Stringfellow January 15, 2010 at 5:59 pm

Wow, this is an amazing giveaway. Would especially be useful for my blog launch coming up! Could be the decider between my blog failing or not!

7 Janelle January 15, 2010 at 6:00 pm

I’m hoping to switch to Wordpress soon and need all the help I can get.

8 Ben January 15, 2010 at 6:01 pm

I do consider myself as an advance WordPress user but Jeff and Chris keep surprising me with stuff I would have never thought about. Sometimes simple, other times very technical, I believe I could learn a few good practices and new tricks with this book.

I’ll have one please!

9 Voras January 15, 2010 at 6:03 pm

I haven’t heard about “Digging into WP” before, but I just read the review and would love to get the book. So count me in :)

10 Vassileios Mastorostergios January 15, 2010 at 6:04 pm

I read Chris say when he published the book “Finally a developer’s book that can sit straight on your desk”, while referring to the bookbinding. Excellently designed book, love the binding. Love that each page has a unique styling! Would love to win a copy.

11 Rick C January 15, 2010 at 6:07 pm

I am new to all of this and I am looking at using Wordpress to run a CMS site about our RV travels (pages and blog posts) – Being retired, I’m not in a position to purchase very many books, so if my name is drawn for this giveaway I can assure you that this book would certainly be of use in getting me started on the right foot as I begin setting up our site. I will be registered this week for a domain and web host.

12 Qwibble January 15, 2010 at 6:08 pm

I know wordpress basics, but would really love to get to know wordpress properly. I’m starting to produce templates to sell on themeforest, and although html/css templates sell well, wordpress is where the money is. Rather than learn from bits here and there, Digging into wordpress seems like a fantastic resource to really get my teeth into wordpress, and improve my skills so that in the long run, I can support myself with more stability on themeforest.

Good luck to all participants. Great contest Jean, subscribed to your RSS feed aswell =)

13 Sean Hayes January 15, 2010 at 6:08 pm

Seen the book. Read the review. Looks like a great and practical way to expand ones knowledge of WordPress.

14 Ash January 15, 2010 at 6:09 pm

I’m a huge fan of Chris and Jeff’s work, and this would be a very useful book!

15 Greg January 15, 2010 at 6:10 pm

hey J.B.

a copy of this would be a great start for 2010. Would love to win one.
But then again, this would mean that I need to visit your site(s) less regularly ;)

16 Daniel January 15, 2010 at 6:15 pm

I love Chris Coyer’s jobs. He’s an amazing designer, I’d love to win this giveway!
Cheers from Brazil.

17 R Zaman January 15, 2010 at 6:18 pm

I’m living with WordPress both with my own WordPress sites and outsourcing. I’ve specific interest on building WordPress themes because I don’t consider myself as expert WordPress Theme maker but I want to be. The title “Anatomy of WordPress Theme” sounds very interesting to be because I can learn more about the theme structure and functionality with “Digging into WP”. That’s why I want to have it! It’ll be great if I win :)

18 Jeff Watkins January 15, 2010 at 6:20 pm

The CSS-Tricks site is fantastic. I am sure this book will be as good, if not better!

19 Jake P. January 15, 2010 at 6:23 pm

I’ve been looking at this book for a while and am pretty pumped about buying it. I have been dabbling in WordPress for a while, but not sure that I’m doing things the best way and this book seems like it’d help alot! Thanks!

20 Eugen R. January 15, 2010 at 6:25 pm

Waah, 17 comments already! Late Google Reader is late. Anyway, here I am.

21 Jeff January 15, 2010 at 6:25 pm

I’ve been reading your articles by RSS for a while now and really enjoy them. When I saw your original post about Digging Into WordPress I checked out the book, but have been holding off on buying (I want the print version which is a little pricey).

Thanks for running this contest and doing the reviews, on top of everything else you do!

22 JeremyOLED January 15, 2010 at 6:25 pm

I’ve been wanting to get this book, but I’m a little short on cash at the moment (spent it all on Xmas gifts :P ) so winning it would be just wonderful

23 Jeroen January 15, 2010 at 6:27 pm

Hi,
this is a great giveaway! I’ve read and heard some about it and of course only positive comments. I think this book would help me to get to know Wordpress a whole lot better!

Jeroen

24 Chad Mueller January 15, 2010 at 6:29 pm

Great review, and I hope I win… if I dont win, I will buy the book anyways…
It would be nice to get it for free though…

25 Alissa January 15, 2010 at 6:29 pm

Ack! I would looooooooooooove to have this book. I need to learn more about this fabulous wordpress tool more indepth. Thanks for the book recommendation!

26 Marty Fried January 15, 2010 at 6:34 pm

I’ve learned so much from Chris Coyier’s video tutorials; his tutorials gave me the jumpstart I needed to go from an old-fashioned C/C++ programmer to a web programmer. His Wordpress tutorials almost instantly exposed the basics, where he started from a “naked” style and built it up to a working site. I’m sure his book will not disappoint, and even though I’m currently unemployed, I will probably buy the book sometimes soon – unless I’m lucky enough to win it here!

Thanks for the review.

27 Sun Pietro January 15, 2010 at 6:36 pm

Well, if I win this book, I’d make my first wordpress theme like a pro.
So, choose me, please!! :)

28 allyreid January 15, 2010 at 6:37 pm

Wordpress is my preferred choice for CMS development, this book would be a greatly appreciated!

29 Darren January 15, 2010 at 6:38 pm

I have the pdf but I cant read ebooks like I can real books, would love to have the print version ;)

30 Jim Kast-Keat January 15, 2010 at 6:41 pm

This book would be INCREDIBLY helpful. I’ve been dabbling with all the ways to create and mod wordpress themes for nearly a year. And I know I have a ways to go, but I’d love to continue learning. This book looks like it would be a great addition to the space right next to my laptop.

31 Steven Rossi January 15, 2010 at 6:42 pm

I’ve been really interested in this book, but I didn’t want to shell out the cash. It’d be sweet to win a copy!

32 Jean-Baptiste Jung January 15, 2010 at 6:44 pm

@Darren : The copies to be won in this giveaway are digital (PDF), not the “real” book.

33 Aaron G. January 15, 2010 at 6:45 pm

Thanks Jean for providing some really great resources on wordpress and blogging. I’ve been a regular on this site and your wprecipes site since I started delving into the world of wordress and blogging about a year ago. I’m constantly amazed at what can be done done with wordpress and with the release of 2.9.1 and the post thumbnail feature (such a cool feature) I’m eager to get my blog complete and live in the coming months.

I’ve learned a lot about wordpress, but there’s always more to learn. I’ve been thinking of adding the digging into wordpress book to my collection but I just haven’t yet pulled the trigger. So I’ll throw my hat in the ring here at a chance of winning one first.

Thanks,
Aaron G.

34 lee January 15, 2010 at 6:50 pm

i would love to win this big shame it is not the printed version. I live in the UK so it is very expensive to have the book delivered but this would be nice to win the pdf

35 Kyra January 15, 2010 at 6:53 pm

Love Wordpress and this book seems like it would be super helpful. I might have to buy it if I don’t win.

37 Darren January 15, 2010 at 6:57 pm

@Jean-Baptiste Oh sorry I just read the title and it said book, lol sorry, take my name off

38 Art Blackey January 15, 2010 at 7:05 pm

Now that is a brilliant idea. A very few years ago, I was wondering how such a popular application didn’t have a book regarding theme design. Now let’s go back to present and jump into new reading!

39 Stuart Kennedy January 15, 2010 at 7:10 pm

I’ve been wanting to learn more about Wordpress, but moving from article to article sometimes leaves me a bit confused. It would be great to have a book like this where everything is coherent.

40 Hugo Moreno January 15, 2010 at 7:24 pm

I love wordpress and I tried to learn all about it so… I really want to be one of the lucky winners.

Thanks for the opportunity.

42 Ethan Shaw January 15, 2010 at 7:26 pm

Chris & Jeff have created a fantastic resource for any WP developer. This book would really help turn our free contact manager theme into a more robust solution that could bring a lot of people who would normally never be exposed to WordPress into the community.

43 JP January 15, 2010 at 7:26 pm

The Diggin into WP Book looks very promising. Digging Into WP will definitely help increase my wp knowledge for future projects!

44 Erica M January 15, 2010 at 7:38 pm

48 Jonathan Hogervorst January 15, 2010 at 8:15 pm

I think this book would be great for me! I’m using WordPress for a few months now, but I don’t know more than the basics. Especially thing like theming are very interesting for me.

Jonathan

49 Tony January 15, 2010 at 8:17 pm

Fourth time’s the charm? I’ve already entered into three other similar giveaways for Digging into WordPress. All ended with the same result. Nada. Hopefully my luck will change for the better.

- Stephanie

54 Crystal January 15, 2010 at 9:30 pm

This book would be wonderful to have! I’m just getting into more Wordpress theme development for my clients, but I definitely want to get more familiar with it so I can start providing more than simple custom themes — theme giveaways, selling stock themes, as well as more advanced themes for my clients as well. This book seems like a great starting point!

55 NicoGaudin January 15, 2010 at 9:47 pm

Seriously though, this is such a generous giveaway. One of the books that I’ve wanted ever since it came out.

Man, I wish I had this book! I wouldn’t say I’m new to WordPress (quite the opposite, really), but it would be something very useful to have around.

62 Slobodan Kustrimovic January 16, 2010 at 5:31 am

Following Chrises work for quite a while and he was one of the reasons i wanted to start my own webdev blog and then tutsvalley.com was born. I don’t doubt that the quality of DIW is top but i would like to get that copy just to make sure :)

64 Lee Ka Hoong January 16, 2010 at 6:07 am

71 Bean Fairbanks January 16, 2010 at 11:58 am

I recently downloaded the preview of this book and I was really impressed. The preview contains pages from their chapter 3 and gives an excellent explanation about theme template files. I especially appreciated the logical and easy to read formatting of the information.
I would be pretty excited to win this excellent e-book.

84 Monique Niccole January 18, 2010 at 5:11 am

85 Maggie January 18, 2010 at 5:36 am

Sounds like a great book. I’ve created a WP account but I find it confusing to use when you’re a beginner so this book would really come in handy!

hey there,

I’m just starting to get my head around Wordpress.

I live in Denmark, so I guess the shipping of the book would be quite expensive for you … I’d be happy with a pdf version if you had one :-)

93 Pascal January 20, 2010 at 7:59 pm

I know wordpress has vast tutorials. but a ebook with 400 Pages. Wow . I wonder how much time the author put effort on this ebook creation… If i get win, will be pleased very much.

Subscribed to your feed also.

94 Stephen R January 20, 2010 at 10:57 pm

Hi — With all the good feedback on this book, I actually put up an ad for it on my site. I’ve been planning on picking up a copy, but a free one works even better! ;-)

I think the best part of the PDF version is the “subscription” to later updates. As WordPress changes, the PDF of this book will keep up — how very cool.

95 Kathy January 21, 2010 at 7:32 am

Just getting into WordPress and this would really help me.

96 Steve O January 21, 2010 at 9:43 pm
